A local company in Indonesia was established in 1994 and production of the CALPICO® brand started in 1995. The entire process, from production to sales, takes place in Indonesia, where the CALPICO® mini series is increasingly popular. We continue to promote the CALPICO® brand in Indonesia.
Profile
Calpis is a Japanese brand of fermented lactic acid beverages first created by Kaiun Mishima in 1919. It is currently owned by Asahi Group Holdings, which acquired the company in 2012. Calpis operates as a subsidiary under the Asahi Group, primarily integrated into Asahi Soft Drinks Co., Ltd. for domestic operations. The brand is active globally, with products available in over 10 countries.
Core technology involves a two-stage fermentation process using proprietary lactobacilli and yeasts, combined with milk protein stabilization to ensure a smooth texture. In 2026, Asahi Group entered a franchise alliance with Varun Beverages Limited to introduce ready-to-drink Calpis products to the Indian market, with a launch scheduled for the second half of 2026. Additionally, the company continues to research lactic acid bacteria and yeast-derived postbiotics for applications in functional foods and animal nutrition.
