CHITOSE leads the MATSURI Initiative, a cross-industry program aimed at establishing a microalgae-based industry. Key infrastructure includes the 5-hectare CHITOSE Carbon Capture Central (C4) facility in Sarawak, Malaysia, with plans to scale to 100 hectares by 2027 and 10 million hectares by 2050.
The group is privately held, with founder Tomohiro Fujita as the largest shareholder. It has raised significant capital, including a 7.3 billion yen round closed in 2025, and aims for a NASDAQ listing by fiscal year 2027. As of mid-2026, the company remains active, continuing to expand its MATSURI partner network and advancing biopharmaceutical and bio-production technologies.
