Profile
TotalEnergies Corbion is a bioplastics company that produces and markets Luminy brand polylactic acid (PLA) resins, which are biobased, compostable, and recyclable alternatives to conventional plastics. Its core technology involves the polymerization of lactic acid into high-performance PLA grades used in packaging, automotive components, 3D printing, and consumer goods.
As of February 2026, the company is fully owned and operated by TotalEnergies following the completion of a strategic exit by its former partner, Corbion. The venture operates a world-scale PLA manufacturing facility in Rayong, Thailand, with a capacity of 75,000 tonnes per year. While Corbion has divested its stake in the downstream polymer business, it remains a primary supplier of lactic acid feedstock to the Rayong plant. The company continues to be active, recently receiving the Thailand Safety Award 2026.
