What is the bioeconomy
The production of goods and services from renewable biological resources.
The bioeconomy encompasses all economic activity that produces, uses or transforms renewable biological resources — crops, forests, animals, micro-organisms and their derived biomass — into food, feed, materials, chemicals and energy.
Why it matters
It offers a route to decouple economic growth from fossil resources by substituting bio-based feedstocks and processes for petrochemical ones.
