Scope, sourcing rules, the division of labour between the reference and the technology catalogue, and how uncertainty is handled.
This reference explains the science of the bioeconomy. It is a companion to the technology catalogue on the same site, and the two are deliberately different documents.
The division of labour
A catalogue entry at /technology/<subject>/ is commercial: what the thing is used for, who supplies it, how mature it is, which regulator governs it, where the value chain runs. A reference page on the same subject answers a different question — why it works. Mechanism, the physics and biology that constrain it, what is genuinely difficult, and where the field disagrees with itself.
The test we apply is simple: if a paragraph could be moved from one to the other without a reader noticing, it is in the wrong place. Reference pages therefore do not carry supplier tables, funding rounds, market sizes, company rankings or regulatory approval dates. Those are real and useful, and they live in the catalogue.
Scope
Every subject in the technology catalogue is intended to have a reference page, and the reference is organised by the same sector-and-cluster taxonomy the catalogue uses, so a subject sits in the same place in both. A small number of pages — this one, the introduction to the bioeconomy, and the carbon-cycle primer — are about the field itself rather than any single technology, and have no catalogue counterpart by design.
Sourcing
Claims are sourced. Where a number, a standard, a threshold or a mechanism appears, it is one that can be attributed, and it is stated at the precision the underlying evidence supports — not tightened for effect. Where a figure is model-derived rather than measured, the page says so, because in several parts of this field that distinction is the whole argument.
We do not invent citations, figures, dates or standard numbers. A thinner honest page is better than a fuller invented one, and where a claim cannot be sourced it is cut rather than softened.
Uncertainty
Much of the bioeconomy is unsettled science, and some of it is contested in public. Where that is the case, the page states the disagreement and what it turns on, rather than presenting one side as settled. Life-cycle results that vary by an order of magnitude between studies, measured-versus-modelled carbon removal, and mechanical properties that depend on test conditions are all treated this way. A page that states its own uncertainty is doing its job; one that smooths it over is not.
What this reference does not do
It does not recommend vendors. Naming a company as an example of a technology is legitimate where it is true and sourced; ranking, endorsing or quoting prices is not, and belongs to the commercial side of the site.
It carries no mathematical typesetting — there is no formula renderer here, so equations appear as plain text or in a code block.
Languages
The reference is published in Russian and English. The two are written to be read natively in each language, not machine-glossed from one to the other, and a page occupies the same address in both.
