What changes this industry: bio-solutions with evidence, technologies, suppliers and open money.
Overview of the industry
These articles cover dangerous chemicals and drugs that are still widely used in livestock, poultry and beekeeping (Russia/CIS and globally), together with alternatives that are proven in practice and based on biology or the bioeconomy: microbes, vaccines, fermentation products, beneficial organisms, natural substances, genetics and management.
Veterinary medicines and feed additives must be used under veterinary supervision and according to the national registration (in Russia: the Rosselkhoznadzor registers of veterinary drugs and feed additives). Doses in the articles are label or authorization examples, not prescriptions. Therapeutic antibiotic treatment of sick animals remains necessary. These articles target routine, prophylactic and growth-promoting uses and hazardous substances.
Rating: Replace: proven to replace the chemical in practice (often as a program). Partial: substantially reduces use, but chemicals are still needed in some situations.

Dangerous veterinary substances reviewed but SKIPPED (no proven bio-alternative)#
| Substance / use | Hazard | Why skipped / what to do instead |
|---|---|---|
| Diclofenac (NSAID) in cattle | Lethal to vultures that eat carcasses; caused the collapse of Gyps vulture populations in South Asia (Oaks et al. 2004, Nature 427: 630–633) | The alternative is a safer chemical (meloxicam), not a bio-alternative. Diclofenac for livestock is banned in India, Pakistan and Nepal |
| Beta-agonists (ractopamine) and hormonal growth promoters | Residues; banned in the EU, Russia and China | No biological product replaces the effect; the answer is a ban plus better genetics and nutrition |
| Nitrofurans, chloramphenicol, malachite green | Carcinogenic/toxic residues; prohibited in food animals | Prohibited, so no substitution is needed. Aquaculture alternatives are covered separately (fishery folder) |
| Organophosphate sheep dips (diazinon) for sheep scab and blowfly | Worker neurotoxicity, water pollution | No proven biological replacement yet; management (crutching, shearing timing, breeding) and safer registered products only |
| Metaphylactic antibiotics for bovine respiratory disease | AMR | Vaccination and management reduce use (partial), but there is no standalone biological replacement; not covered as a separate article |
| Copper sulfate foot-baths | Copper accumulation in soils via slurry | Partly covered in V12; evidence for alternatives is still mixed |
