Scope: industrial biotech & bio-based materials, agricultural biotech & AgTech, food biotech, environmental & marine biotech, plus bioenergy, forestry and restoration. Pharma, diagnostics, devices and veterinary medicines are excluded.

Region: the Americas without the USA and Canada (Puerto Rico and other US territories are out too). Scope decisions (owner, 2026-09-25):

Local subsidiaries of non-Latin-American multinationals (Cargill Brasil, Corteva Argentina, Novonesis Brasil …) are excluded.
Latin American-origin companies headquartered in the US (or elsewhere) are kept, filed under their Latin American country.
Brazil is capped at 40 % of the dataset (COUNTRY_CAP in exa_osint.py, applied to discovery).
Public research bodies (Embrapa, INTA, INIA, CIMMYT …) are included. Universities and associations are not.

Status: drafted from model knowledge, then vetted with check-map (2026-09-25): 5 foreign-owned entries removed (see bottom). URLs, tickers and ownership may be wrong or out of date. Run python3 exa_osint.py check-map --max-usd 1 and fix this file before running research. The list is a seed only: asia-seed + discover add companies similar to the Asia dataset and to these seeds.
