Adherent cell expansion on small (100–300 μm) suspended solid particles kept in gentle agitation inside a stirred-tank or single-use bioreactor, raising the surface-to-volume ratio by 3–4 orders of magnitude versus planar flasks and enabling 10–50 L bioreactors to outproduce hundreds of CellSTACK layers.
