Bio-natural gas (biomethane from rural and urban organic waste)

Renewable gas made by anaerobic fermentation and upgrading of crop straw, manure and other organic waste — China targets over 10 billion m³ a year by 2025 and over 20 billion m³ by 2030, moving from household scale to large pilots since 2015.

1 · What it gives

Bio-natural gas is a green, low-carbon renewable gas produced by anaerobic fermentation and purification of urban and rural organic waste such as crop straw and livestock manure. It has moved from household scale to large pilot projects since 2015, with regional commercial operations such as the Funan model in Anhui. China aims at over 10 billion cubic metres a year by 2025 and over 20 billion by 2030.

D1Process equipment for residue-to-product plants — anaerobic digesters and biogas upgrading, composting turners and granulation lines, biomass pelleting, pyrolysis and carbonization kilns — instead of incinerators, landfill, open lagoons and open burning
Replaces: Landfill and open dumping of organic waste; open burning of crop residues; open anaerobic lagoons; incineration of wet organic waste
EAC
D1Organic and organo-mineral fertilizers made from biogas digestate, compost, vermicompost and insect frass instead of part of mineral NPK
Replaces: Part of the mineral NPK (urea, DAP/MAP, potash) applied to field and horticultural crops; mineral-only fertilization of soils low in organic …

D1Food and market organic waste treated by black soldier fly (BSF) larvae, composting and bokashi fermentation instead of landfilling, open dumping and incineration of wet waste
Replaces: Landfilling and open dumping of food/market waste (methane, leachate, vectors); incineration of high-moisture organic waste; chemical fly …

D1Constructed (treatment) wetlands for villages, farms, small towns and stormwater — instead of chemical precipitation, chlorination of effluent, or discharge of untreated wastewater
Replaces: Chlorination of small-plant effluents (chlorinated by-products), chemical phosphorus precipitation with iron/aluminium salts at small scale, …
SERV
D1Recovered phosphorus (struvite and other recovered phosphates from biological wastewater and digester streams) instead of fertilizer made from cadmium-bearing phosphate rock
Replaces: A share of DAP/MAP/superphosphate made from mined phosphate rock; chemical P-removal with iron and aluminium salts at treatment plants …
