1 · What it gives

Cellulosic ethanol is a second-generation biofuel intended to replace ethanol from food crops (1G) and fossil transport fuels. The process has four steps: pretreatment, enzymatic hydrolysis, fermentation and distillation. The technology reached pilot and initial commercial demonstration, with key commercial-scale plants starting operation between 2013 and 2016.
