1 · What it gives

Cold-chain storage and transport keeps vaccines and other biologics inside defined temperature ranges from storage to delivery to preserve safety and efficacy. WHO packaging and shipping guidance is in large-scale use: a widely used 6th edition in 2020 and a 7th edition in 2025 that covers ultra-low-temperature vaccine shipments. In China, the bio-sample cold-chain logistics standard GB/T 42186-2022 has applied since 2023. Where infrastructure is weak the gap is large: a scoping review reports only 48 % of Ethiopian health facilities with satisfactory cold-chain infrastructure.
