Fermented feed & feed amino acids

Feed fermented with approved microbes and amino acids made by microbial fermentation that replace part of soybean meal — commercial in China, with over 7.3 million tonnes promoted in three years to April 2025 and a USD 6.95 billion amino-acid market in 2024.

1 · What it gives

Fermented feed is made by fermenting feed raw materials with microbes approved in the Feed Additive Catalogue. Feed amino acids are essential nutrients produced mainly by microbial fermentation (DL-methionine is the exception). Both aim to replace conventional protein sources such as soybean meal, to cut import dependence and improve use of low-quality resources. Biological feed technology has reached commercial scale in China, with over 7.3 million tonnes promoted nationally in the three years to April 2025; the Chinese feed-amino-acid market reached USD 6.95 billion in 2024 with output of about 4.33 million tonnes.
