1 · What it gives

The Human Cell Lineage Facility is a national mega-science research infrastructure that aims to map the whole life cycle of human cells, from fertilisation to ageing, as a digital resource. Its automated pipeline covers sample pre-processing, storage, multi-scale imaging, multi-omics analysis and data processing and validation. It aims to replace or augment drug research that relies on animal models, which often fail to predict human responses. As of 2025 it is under construction, with a planned build period of 4.5 years.
