Intelligent germplasm design integrates molecular design breeding with bioinformatics and artificial intelligence. It is replacing or outperforming traditional experience-based breeding. The steps are germplasm resource management, defining the breeding target, parental selection, early screening with predictive models and field testing. The technology is at commercialisation or an advanced pilot stage, with platforms released as early as 2021–2024.
