It is the regulatory backbone of the US Drug Supply Chain Security Act (DSCSA, full traceability from 2023), the EU Falsified Medicines Directive (FMD, with the European Medicines Verification System and on-pack anti-tamper seals) and China’s two-dimensional-code mandate, and the operational foundation of anti-counterfeiting, targeted recall and chargeback-verification workflows. The platform is mid-transformation along four axes: the move from lot-level to unit-level traceability as DSCSA phase-in completes; cloud multi-enterprise networks (TraceLink OPUS) replacing point-to-point data exchange; agentic AI orchestration of supply-chain workflows; and integration of serialization with primary-packaging inspection (Antares Vision’s packaging-line ecosystem shown at Interpack 2026).

China is a demanding serialization market under the National Medical Products Administration’s two-dimensional-code mandate, which requires a unique traceable 2D code on every saleable drug unit. Domestic pharmaceutical manufacturers, contract packagers and distributors run serialization stacks against the NMPA mandate, but the dedicated serialization-OEM layer remains substantially imported (Italian, German and North-American), so the Chinese regional block is held qualitative.

The multi-enterprise network (TraceLink OPUS) or local site system allocates a pool of unique GS1 serial numbers to the production order, drawn from the brand-owner’s range.
Stage 2: Print and vision verify
Each bottle, blister or case is inkjet- or laser-printed with its 2D Data Matrix, then camera-inspected for code grade, readability and data content at line speed; rejects are ejected before aggregation.
Stage 3: Aggregation
Parent-child relationships (bottle into bundle, bundle into case, case into pallet) are captured by scanning at each packing station, building the full hierarchy needed for downstream tracing.
Stage 4: Network upload
Serialization and aggregation data are pushed to the multi-enterprise network, making pack-level identity and hierarchy available to every authorized trading partner in real time.
Stage 5: Distribution scanning
Wholesalers and distributors scan the 2D code at each receipt and shipment, maintaining chain-of-custody and flagging any orphan, duplicate or mismatched serial against the network.
Stage 6: Dispenser verification
