Therapeutic vaccines (cancer and chronic disease)

Vaccines given to treat an existing disease — antigen-specific DNA, mRNA or cell-based products — with one approved cell-based product since 2010 and a cancer-vaccine market valued at USD 10.21 billion in 2023.

1 · What it gives

Therapeutic vaccines treat a disease that is already present, with high specificity, fewer side effects and potentially longer-lasting effect and no drug resistance compared with chemical or other biological drugs. Sipuleucel-T (Provenge), approved by the FDA in 2010, is the commercial-scale example. The global cancer-vaccine market was valued at USD 10.21 billion in 2023 and is projected to reach USD 30.16 billion by 2033.
